Speech students on to state

The Trojan forensics squad participated in the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) district tournament on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Nine students advanced to state in various events.  State will be held in Glenwood on March 12.

Katelyn Blake qualified in Literary Program, Jessica Askland qualified in Spontaneous Speaking, Ian Goehring in Prose, Tom Stinn in Improvisation, and Lilly Zablocki qualified in Original Oratory.

Freshman Lilly Zablocki comments, “I feel like the hard work on my speech paid off.”

AHS had three students qualifiy in two events.  Nora Walker qualified in Radio News and Solo Musical Theater.  Caroline Trewet qualified in Story Telling and Original Oratory.  Malachi Wickman also qualified in Origional Oratory and Story Telling.

Speech coach Terrence Shuman comments, “I am very excited to be going back to Glenwood, we did well there last year.”

If the students receive a division “I” superior rating from each of the three judges, they are considered for All State.

Shuman comments, “We have had an All-State qualifier four years running, and we hope to keep the streak alive!”
