Last night, Feb. 20, the first round of district basketball was held in Atlantic. The first teams of the night to take the floor were ADM and Harlan. ADM defeated the Cyclones, advancing them onto the next round.

The Trojans were next, and took on the Winterset Huskies.

Both teams showed relentlessness in the first quarter, keeping the score close. The Trojans started off slow, and by the end they barely led 14-10.

In the second, the Atlantic team had a rough eight minutes. They ended the half down, 26-30.

The Trojans came out of the locker room strong, and ready for another win. In the end of the third the team was ahead, 43-39.

Atlantic had a huge fourth quarter sealing the deal 58-45. The Trojans outscored the Huskies 32-15 in the second half.

The Trojans will move onto the second district game, and play the ADM Tigers this Thursday, Feb. 23. This game will determine what team moves on to play at the sub-state game.

Head coach Alan Jenkins said in order for success the rest of the season, the team is focusing on the fundamentals that were started in the beginning of the year. “As the season moves along you can’t forget about what made you who you are.”

Looking at the game against ADM Jenkins said, “We are going to have to play a more complete game. They will try to exploit us with their quickness. With that being said, I know our guys will be ready to go.”

Jenkins also said, “We are proud of our season, but we know our ultimate goal is still on the table.”

The district final game will begin at 7 p.m. in the AHS gym.
