Senior Football Numbers Low

This 2015 football season has kicked off with the boys excited for the many upcoming games. The Trojans have suffered their first loss to the Clarinda Cardinals, but are looking forward to capturing wins in the near future.

The Trojans graduated 12 starting seniors last year and in addition only have five seniors out this year. Those seniors include Brendan Holmes, Clayton West, Kyle Nelson, Ricardo Martinez, and Walker Whitt. Also the Trojans have had many people quit which hurt the team as well.

The boys however, have a very positive attitude about the season. Nelson says, “I’m looking forward to big plays and memorable moments for my last season as a Trojan.”

Holmes said that even though they only have five seniors he is glad he kept doing football throughout all four years. “I think I’m going to play football in college, and it is one of my favorite sports, so I won’t quit just because we have low numbers.”

Nelson also gives advice to underclassmen by saying, “Gut it out because once you reach your junior and senior year it changes. You represent the community and it’s something that you will really enjoy, it makes you feel good about yourself.”

According to many of the team players, Holmes is the most vocal leader on the team and Nelson is more of a lead by example kind of player. The Trojans’ positive attitude towards their season might just be what they need in order to get those wins that they are striving for.
