This year’s musical was “Willy Wonka.” It was shown last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

This year for the Spring Musical the Atlantic High School Choir will performing the musical Willy Wonka.  Auditions were held before the end of first semester.  All choir kids were allowed to audition for any role in the musical.  High School Band Director Jarrod O’Donnell assisted Choir Director Jennifer Gaesser in choosing the cast of the musical.

Practices started on Jan. 5, with a readthrough of the script.  The cast has been working very hard since then.  Also, pit has been practicing all of the songs for the musical since the middle of February.  Not only have they been memorizing lines but also memorizing songs, building set pieces, and learning blocking.  For the past week the cast of the musical has been joined by the members of the pit and Eric Weiser, the lights operator.

The musical will be performed on March 6, 7, and 8.   This year the music department is trying something new and making tickets available for pre-sale, meaning that if you buy your tickets early, you get pre-reserved seating.  But as usual tickets will be available at the door.  Adults are $5 and students are $3.

Senior Ben Parker, who will be playing Willy Wonka and the Candy Man, said, “I think that practices have been going well especially this week’s rehearsals. I think that the Musical is going to be great. Last week I wouldn’t have had as much confidence in it but everyone seems to have found the motivation to work hard so that we have a wonderful production.”

Sophomore Max Elwood, who will be playing the role of Charlie, said, “Practices have been choppy but I think the musical is going to be great.”
