On Monday, Jan. 26, the Trojan girls basketball team took on the Treynor Cardinals. The Cardinals beat the Trojans 65-59, and was an extremely close competition the entire game.

“The game was intense, we had a lot of support from the fans which was great. We knew they were going to be tough competition but we fought with them the whole time and never gave up,” said sophomore Catherine Leonard.

The Trojans were only behind by two at halftime and came out in the third quarter with high energy. By the end of the third quarter, the Cardinals went on a scoring streak and were up by 12, but the Trojans fought back and came back strong in the fourth.

Sophomore Stephanie Sandbothe said that she played pretty well, besides the fact that she had to sit out in the second quarter because of foul trouble. “ We still have a lot to work on, like having that effort for every game and keep getting on the floor,” said Sandbothe.

Head coach Kelly Juhl said that the girls need to work on finishing layups and being confident in their abilities to score. “We played very well, we were hustling and diving for loose balls and being aggressive on offense, we had an outstanding first half effort wise. “

The Trojans play the Red Oak Tigers on Friday night and expect to do great things. The Trojans only lost by 5 points in the last game against them and held down two of their main scorers, Kate Walker and Grace Bloomstead. “We are going to shoot a lot more to prepare for Friday and we are going to look at film from Red Oak and try to make a few changes to overcome the 5 point loss from last time.”
