“Not the gumdrop button”

by Stephanie Pross

Every year near Christmas time, students display gingerbread houses in the window of the media center.  This year, the students began making the gingerbread houses on Dec. 6; they were due Dec. 15.  Besides the candy used on the houses, everything is made from scratch.

Between the two Foods I classes, there are nine groups made up of 2-4 people working hard to create their own gingerbread houses.  Junior Echo O’Connor said, “My favorite thing about making gingerbread houses is being creative and making it how we want it to be.”

Senior Patrick Towne, observing the houses, said, “My favorite is Brooke and Kourtnie’s because it looks neat with the design of the house, walkway, trees, and sleigh with Santa in it.”

Neat idea. Are the creations judged, or is it an activity encouraging creativity just for the fun of it?
