Trojan Volleyball Wrap-Up

Every season has a start and an end date, but the players dedication to the sport doesn’t.  It’s the end of fall and time for basketball, wrestling, and boys swimming to start, but let’s not forget about the fall sports just yet.  The volleyball season came to an end this past week as their final games were played against Red Oak.

Sophomore Catherine Leonard returns the ball in the middle of a game. Leonard played on the varsity team. Her season was ended early due to an injury.

The volleyball team wrapped up their second season with Bonnie Clinch as their coach.  Although they had a few set backs, they fought through them as a team.  These set backs included Clinch expecting a baby at the end of the year, the low number of upperclassmen, having just one lone senior, and having to “start from scratch” just a year ago. ”Even though our record doesn’t show it, I think we were the most improved team in the conference.”

The Trojans brought home two victories, including a win over Winterset and another over Albia.  Sophomore Megan Behrends said their first win over the Winterset Huskies was the “highlight of the season.”  Behrends will also be one of the returning starters for next year’s varsity, along with Clinch who will be returning to coach. “I would be too sad if I didn’t,” said Clinch.
