AHS Fuel is the group that plans fun for the fans at school activities.

In 2013 a group of Atlantic students came together and created AHS Fuel. According to information provided by AHS Fuel, the group focuses on promoting school spirit, increasing attendance at all school activities, creating equality among students, and making sure every student has a blast throughout high school.

On Sept. 8 AHS Fuel elected their officers: president is senior Savannah Sorensen, vice president sophomore Jena Brosam, secretary sophomore Bailey Schildberg, treasurer freshman Cooper McDermott, mascot VP sophomore Max Elwood, activities VP junior Ryan Hawkins, Student Council liaison senior Jenny Hohenberger, and cheer liaison junior Emily McDermott.

Advisor of AHS Fuel Allison Berryhill said AHS Fuel is “a pep club on steroids!” Her goal for AHS Fuel is for Atlantic to be known as the school with the best school spirit in the Hawkeye 10. Berryhill wants excitement in our student section, whether we are winning or losing.

Senior Robby Bodine said AHS Fuel needs to offer the free passes that were offered in the beginning of the 2013 school year. These passes were only offered to students that wore their AHS Fuel wristbands and attended three of the first cross country meets, volleyball games, or football games. Sophomore Bailey Steffens thinks the school needs more pep rallies. “They get the students pumped up for the games” and make everyone want to attend, she said.

Principal Heather McKay said, “I like how AHS Fuel sets up the dress days for football games. It keeps everyone the same so there isn’t a controversy between what the dress day should or shouldn’t be.” McKay said AHS Fuel has made a positive change in our school by their great energy and thinks it’s a “nice middle between the students and faculty.” “It keeps things equal, so the students get what they want without disrespecting the other team or even the fans of Atlantic,” said McKay.
