Last Tuesday, the boys track team traveled to Glenwood to compete in the first varsity outdoor meet of the season. The Trojans finished ninth out of nine teams with 34 points. Glenwood dominated the meet with a total of 163 points.
The Trojans best finishes were in the shuttle hurdle relay which placed fourth with a time of 1:07.64 and consisted of freshman Drake Roller, sophomore Brendan Holmes and juniors Robby Bodine and Tristen Benn, and senior Josiah Williams placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.58.
The Trojans 4×200 meter relay team finished eighth with a time of 1:38.95 and consisted of Roller, Holmes, Bodine and senior Matt Mills. The 4×400 meter relay team of Roller, Holmes, Bodine, and Mills placed sixth with a time of 3:43.16.
Roller said, “We did pretty good. The results don’t show it but we ran hard and gave it our best.”
On the throwing side, junior Travis Peterson placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 119”4’. Also, juniors Skyler Svoboda threw 110”4.5’, Tyler Thomas threw 85”9’ and Casey Ihnen threw 82”7’ in the discus. In the shot put, seniors Tyler Christensen threw 35”6.5’ and Jez Phippen threw 33”.
Junior Tyler Thomas said, “I could’ve done better. I was nervous because it was my first track meet. I need to work harder and hit the weight room more.”
Assistant coach Bryan Woods said, “ I thought that they performed pretty well but we still have a lot of things to improve on.”
Woods said, “We need to be able to work on our top-end speed as well as our mental toughness and team atmosphere. “
The boys track is back in action on Friday in Clarinda for the Cardinal Relays beginning at 4:30 p.m.
