Boys Soccer Scrimmage

Boys+Soccer+Scrimmage

By Josie Anzalone and Matt Smith

The 2014 boys soccer season kicked off on Mar. 17 with the first day of practice. After two weeks the boys have been getting ready to scrimmage two different teams that their coach set up. The games are just a week before the start of the season when the boys soccer team will host Underwood on Thur. April 3. The team will travel away on both scrimmages. The first scrimmage will be at West Central Valley on Fri. Mar. 28. The following Tuesday they will travel to Treynor.

“The season should be good and we should be able to shut them out with a score of 3-0.” said sophomore Nolan Farver. The boys ended last years season with a 7-7 record during the regular season. Junior Matt Smith ended the season with 15 goals which was the highest out of the team. “I am aiming for scoring over 30 goals by the end of the season. I also plan to go to the state championship.”

“I want to have the most assists off throw-ins.” Ryan Hawkins. After we talked to a few players from the team, most of them were excited to get going on this season even know though it’s  a scrimmage because they will be able to see how the team is going to look. Jacob Johnson said, “Oh yeah, I have been waiting for this all year long.”

The first scrimmage against West Central Valley will be held in Stuart starting at 4 p.m. on their high school field. Then the next game will be held at Treynor High School around the same time. Varsity will play for 20 minutes then Jv will play 30 mins then the Varsity will play again for another 20 mins and that will be the entire scrimmage. They will be going through certain situations which could very happen in a real game.

Good luck boys on your scrimmages and your upcoming season!
