The Atlantic High School Javelin yearbook has received an Award of Achievement by the Iowa High School Press Association. Every year, journalism teacher Allison Berryhill sends the yearbook in for an evaluation. The book was reviewed by Michelle Pugh and she says that our department has “some good journalists on staff.”
Last year’s yearbook received comments including, “There are several unique features to this yearbook,” “Great coverage,” and “Captions are full of relevant info.” Receiving comments like this is very important to the yearbook staff. Berryhill says, “We really had to rely on last year’s juniors to finish the book during the summer. They did an excellent job of working under pressure. I think our book had a lot of appeal to students.”
Senior yearbook editor Lisa Gearheart said, “I think the comments we received were really helpful. I hope that the juniors this year are able to do a great job on the 2014-15 yearbook.” Berryhill says that participating in the contest gives us good feedback, but the judges don’t always know what’s important to our students.
As the journalism department looks forward to this years yearbook, they are giving their best effort to make this years book a good one.
The 2013-14 yearbook will be finished in June and delivered to students in early September. It can be ordered HERE.

I was really proud of last year’s junior journalists for putting in the hard work to help finish the yearbook over the summer. I too helped during a good portion of the summer so know how much hard work they put in. I applaud you guys.
