Iron Man volleyball has once again started at AHS.  On Wednesday, March 11, the games were held during seminar. The juniors won the first match against the freshmen with scores of 15-4 and 15-12.  Meanwhile, the sophomores beat the seniors, with scores of 15-9 and 15-10.  The sophomores and juniors then battled it out in a one match rally, with a score of 20-16, juniors taking first, sophomores taking second.  In the consolation match between the freshmen and seniors, the freshmen came out on top, earning the third place spot, leaving fourth place with the seniors.

The senior’s volleyball team had eleven players, which included Michael Thomsen.  Before the games took place, Thomsen said, “I feel like we’re going to beat the sophomores and I’m looking forward to play the teachers on Friday.”

The sophomore team was comprised of nine boys, including Ryan Hawkins, who participated in a limited role. Hawkins recently got a boot on his foot, and was bummed when his mom told him that she didn’t want him to play.  Hawkins said, “I’m only going out to serve.  I definitely won’t be my normal, peppy self.  I’m missing out on the action.”

The junior’s volleyball team also consisted of eleven players.  Matt Smith said, “The win feels amazing.  It’s awesome because we get to beat the teachers on Friday!”  Smith feels the juniors played much better than last year, due to the fact that more people participated from the grade.

The freshman’s volleyball team had the most style, entering the court with their hot pink jerseys.  Nine boys participated as a team.  Ethan Stoural said, “We played good, I guess.  The first match was horrible, but in the second match, we definitely played better as a team.”

After the games concluded, junior Hannah Just exclaimed that she was very proud of the junior class.  Senior Jacob Johnson said, “I’m used to getting last in Iron Man Volleyball by now, I’m pretty sure that it’s happened the last three years.”

The junior class will now play the faculty members on Friday during the TWIRP assembly after eighth period.
