The 2010 Winter Band/Vocal concert is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the AHS Auditorium.

The AHS Symphonic Band, Treble Singers, Concert Choir, and Chamber Chorale will perform.

The symphonic band, under the direction of Jarrod O’Donnell and Eric Johnson, will present four songs: “Tobaggan Ride” (Stan Applebaum), “Ave Maria” (Bible/Ballanger), “Carnival of Venice” (Leroy Anderson), and “Northwoods: Of Might and Mettle” (Robert W. Smith).

“Carnival of Venice” will feature guest an alto saxophone soloist, middle school band director Leah O’Donnell.

The all-female Treble Singers will perform three songs to lead off the vocal portion of the concert.  They will perform “Gloria Deo” (M.L. Lightfoot); “Merry Christmas with Love” (G. Davis), featuring guest soloist freshman Shelby McKinley; and “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” (A. Hague), with soloist freshman Maren McNees and sophomore Shelby Smith.

The Concert Choir, the first of two mixed choirs at AHS, will be featured next.  They will perform “Christmas Festival” (L.M. Emig), “Bidi Bom” (D. Eddleman), and “Christmas Hallelu” (J. Althouse). The Concert Choir will feature soloist sophomores Mackenzie Holmes and Kallee Mudd.

The Chamber Chorale will perform after the Treble Singers.  They will sing “O Come, Come, Emmanuel” (arranged by J. Rouse), featuring freshmen Preston Hoye on the baritone saxophone; “Mungo Ni Pendo” (arranged by R. Gower); and “Good News” (R. Mathes).

The final song the Chamber Chorale will perform is the traditional “Hallelujah Chorus” from Messiah (G.F. Handel). This year “Hallelujah Chorus” will be formed based on a youtube video with nuns.  Every syllable of every word will be represented with cardS held by numerous Treble Singers and Concert Choir members.  Vocal director Luke Johnson said, “It’ll be pretty fun.”

To close the night, the mass choir will perform Silent Night (F. Gruber).

This article presents the concert as something a person would surely want to attend.

The effect of the Silent Night performance was nice, but we ended up excluding the people on the outside.
