As the Atlantic-CAM wrestling season winds down to the last individual tournaments, the Trojans had one more chance to show what they are made of. On Tuesday, Feb. 11, they traveled to Creston to take on the Panthers and the Saydel Eagles for the Regional Duals. The Trojans defeated Saydel (52-19) but were then defeated by Creston (40-22). Creston will compete in the State Duals on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Des Moines.
Head coach TIm Duff said, “It was a great opportunity to wrestle in the regional duals again. The team had a nice victory over Saydel to move into the regional final to face Creston. Unfortunately, we came up short against a tough Panther squad. In the final dual, we won six weights but lost eight.”
According to Duff, the highlight of the night was senior Jacob Johnson’s win over Tayler Pettit of Creston. Johnson and Pettit had gone head-to-head four times throughout the season, and Pettie had won all four. Johnson said, “I was pumped. It was really cool to end my high school wrestling career like that.”
Duff also said, “Now our focus is on the six wrestlers in the district tournament Saturday. Great chance for these guys to wrestle at home to earn a trip to the individual state tournament.”
