Darrian Schwenke Joins Brother in 100 Win Club

In his first match of his senior year, 126-pounder Darrian Schwenke won his 100th varsity match of his high school career. He and his brother, Brad Schwenke, former Atlantic wrestler and State Finalist, make the first pair of brothers to ever be in the 100 Win Club.

Darrian ended his Junior year with an ankle injury which put him at 99 varsity wins in his career. “I knew I was wrestling [for my 100th win] but my ankle just gave in again,” Darrien said about his season ending match last year.

Darrian’s 100th win was against the 7th Ranked 126-pounder in 1A wrestling, Brad Kerkhoff. Darrian knew that Kerkhoff would be a challenge but he “took it just like a normal match and forgot it was going to be his 100th win.” He ended up beating Kerkhoff by fall in the third and final period of the match. As he walked off of the mat he was greeted by the wrestling managers giving him balloons and posters to celebrate his win, followed by many people taking pictures of him for the history books.

Darrian was proud to be a part of the 100 win club with his brother. “That’s a good club to be a part of since it was with my brother. We work out together and we helped each other achieve this.”

To continue winning throughout the rest of his high school career, Darrian plans on “wrestling with Carter (AHS freshman) in the room and putting myself into a lot of situations to prepare myself for state.” He hopes to make it deep into the State Wrestling tournament and hopefully coming out of it being Atlantic’s third State Champ in history.
