State Special Olympics took place at Bowlerama Lanes in Des Moines, Iowa. For AHS students, Brooke Pelzer, Lauren McCance, and Kayla Kessler, competed. Pelzer and Kessler both received silver medals at state, while McCance placed 4th.
When asked what her favorite part was, senior Lauren McCance said, “My favorite part was having fun meeting new people and getting to bowl at a different bowling alley.” According to teacher Bev Schelling, “The students prepared for state bowling competition by practicing with their families or at school.” Freshman Brooke Pelzer said, “ We practiced in September and I also went bowling with my family. My mom and dad were proud of me.” Senior Kayla Kessler also said, “ My favorite part was meeting new friends. My parents and sister went and we ate at I-Hop afterwards.” Congratulations to the athletes and their accomplishments!
