The Atlantic FFA chapter has begun its annual fruit sales. According to Ag teacher Eric Miller, the sales began Oct. 21 and will end Nov. 4. This year the chapter is selling fruit, meat, cheese, cookie dough, and pickled herring.
The FFA fruit sale is to raise money for the chapter. Junior Clint Hansen said he plans to sell “at least a $1,000 or more.” Hansen said that the money he earns will go back to the FFA chapter.
According to Miller, students must take one of the ag classes during the school year to be in FFA. Students also have to sell at least $200 worth of fruit. Students who sell $350 earn an FFA jacket. Those who sell $500 earn a jacket and a tee shirt. $750 in sales earns a jacket, tee shirt and sweatshirt. Miller said the reward for selling $1,000 worth of fruit will be a surprise.
Miller said, “The ag classes usually help unload all of the fruit. Once it is unloaded, they will start to sort it into piles for the FFA members.”
Hansen said it is a lot easier to organize the fruit once it is sorted into piles. Hansen unloaded the fruit last year and said it went fast. The FFA chapter had a meeting Thursday, Oct. 17., to go over the fruit sales information for the new members.
Students with any questions can contact any FFA member or Eric Miller at the high school in the Ag room. Hansen said his goals for this year are to sell a lot of fruit and earn an FFA jacket.
