End of First Quarter-Opinion

End+of+First+Quarter-Opinion

By Turner Russell

Atlantic High School has recently finished it’s first quarter of the school year. According to the Atlantic CSD calendar, the quarter officially ended on Oct. 11.  However, multiple teachers have said that they had until Wednesday to finish putting grades into the grade book.

Both teachers and students have a variety of opinions regarding how they feel the first quarter has gone.  For example, math teacher Sheila Hayden stated, “I had a good quarter. I think I’ve got some students that want to be responsible for their own learning.” She also added, “I feel the math energy in the school.” Hayden said she thought that the quarter could have been better if Nebraska hadn’t lost to UCLA, or if the school had hired someone to grade her papers for her.

Several students also had opinions on the year’s first quarter. Junior Justin Somers said that he felt the year went well, but “the hardest part would be getting back into the rhythm, and reminding yourself that you have to continually be on top of things, and not get behind.”

Another student, Sophomore Kaytlyn McKinley said that she thinks the students had more energy and spirit at the pep rallies this quarter. Sophomore Andrew Rothfusz said that he remembered the school lunches as being better in the past, but was happy that the cinnamon rolls stayed the same. On the more academic side of things, Junior Hannah Mclean commented “I really like to be able to take harder, and more challenging, and more interesting classes.”
