The Atlantic High School band competed in the annual Southwest Iowa Band Jamboree in Clarinda on Saturday, Oct. 5, where they placed 5th in the parade category and 3rd in the field category.
The band students arrived at the high school at around 6:45 a.m. to start loading the truck and buses to travel to the competition. The parade was from 9 to 11:30 a.m., however the band was 45th in line, so they had extra time to prepare for marching. After marching, they attended the parade awards event and received their rating. Later that night, at 5:00, they gave their field performance and received that rating.
Jessica Askeland said that she thought they did ok, but there is always room for improvment. When asked what she thought the band did best throughout the day, she said, “I think our sound improved and we had wonderful diagonals”.
