Schuler Principal/Curriculum Director Matt Alexander recently took over as AD/Vice Principal at AHS. Alexander replaced Josh Rasmussen who is now the middle school principal. Before officially transitioning into his new position at the high school on July 1 of last summer, Alexander held the position of Schuler Principal/Curriculum Director. He stated that one of the most difficult aspects of coming from Schuler to AHS is the maturity level among students and understanding the different needs students have.

“Having to deal with discipline, I’m an optimist, and hope students realize when to act responsibly and respectfully.” Alexander said about his least favorite part of his new position. However, the most enjoyable aspect of being AD/Vice Principal is, “watching students participate in the many great activities that we are able to put on.” For only being at the high school for a little over two months, he’s getting used to the way things work.  He works on ways not only students can improve but the entire high school as a whole.

When asked how lenient he will be with student sections in the events to come, Alexander said, “I’ll be as lenient as I am with my own kids. I expect students and parents to be respectful to our guests, give them a good impression and treat them like we would want to be treated if we were to visit them.”

As AHS has tackled some major changes in the past school year, there is always more room for improvement. The new AD hopes the student body will become more aware of disrespect, and issues in our school. “To improve a culture, it starts with the people and students who are in and around it everyday” he said. “Overall, students need to take more charge.”
