During the summer of 2012, Junior Cassie Gregory attended the Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) in Ames, Iowa. YLF program seeks to empower young people with disabilities to further develop their leadership skills.
To this day, 32 states have held a YLF and more than 3000 high school students have participated. “It was fun,” said Cassie. “We got to stay in dorms from Sunday to Friday and there were four beds in each dorm.” Cassie learned about the YLF from Ms Blazek during math class last year.
During the week in Ames, Cassie and fellow students had to wake up early in the morning. Their days were long, lasting until 10 p.m. Cassie plans to attend the Leadership Forum in the future; next time as a leader since you’re only allowed to attend once as a student.
