Saturday, March 2, five Atlantic High School students participated in the state swim meet. Lindsey Keltch, Brienna Steffens, Laeni Pelzer, Hanna King, and Sara King traveled to Marshalltown representing Atlantic High School. The Regional swim meet will be Saturday, March 9 in the St. Paul, Minnesota.
“We got first division. [We’d] never done it before!” said Laeni Pelzer. “I placed in four out of five of my events.” When asked about her expectations for the upcoming meet Laeni answered, “I feel pretty comfortable”.
Through hardships and ups and downs, Hanna King continued to stick with swimming. “I really like it! I did not like it when I started but it grew on me,” she said. She also added that she is expecting to do really well at the upcoming swim meet. Hanna also talked about her concern with Atlantic not having swimming offered as a school sport. “I think schools should have its own swim team. People think it’s not a sport.”
At Monday night’s board meeting, March 11, Atlantic High School will be discussing the possibility of adding a swim team.
