On Feb. 21, 2013, a fellow student, Alex Yager passed away at the Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Alex attended Atlantic schools all his life.
As we think about Alex, We remember playing at recess with him in elementary school. He was always eager to run on the playground and play chase.
We remember Alex with a smile on his face. He never looked angry, and he was always a friend to classmates.
Teacher Beverly Schelling said, “Alex had an infectious laugh, a gentle soul, and a strong conviction for doing what was right. His favorite classroom activity was any type of hands-on science activity. When we worked on an alternate assessment activity in the area of science, I remember that he especially enjoyed one experiment where we observed and drew conclusions about the viscosity of different liquids. He enjoyed it so much, he wanted to do the activity again the next day. His curiosity and humor added a great deal to our classroom and we missed him when he was absent due to illness. He will be missed greatly by all of us!”
