AHS students banded together to change the color of new Spanish teacher Dan Vargason’s hair–and raise awareness of prostate cancer.
A Penny war took place during December. Students voted by putting loose change in different jars to decide on what Vargason should do with his hair. $700 was raised in the process, as Wickman Chemical, Fairway, Duke Aerial, and Plastic Professionals matched funds raised by students.
Elizabeth Huggins and Maria Oltmans did the actual dying of Vargason’s hair. Vargason’s hair is staying blue only until friday, Jan. 25.
The cause for this penny war was thought up by the student from the Spanish club to raise money for prostate cancer.
The choices were: Shave his whole head, grow his beard out till Jan. 23 then dye it blue, grow out his beard until February.
