Ms. Eblen retiring

By Shelby Tichota

Ms. Trudy Eblen is the Core 1 and English 3 teacher at Atlantic High School. She has been teaching for a total of 22 years, starting at Creighton for 2 years, Iowa Western Community College for 12 years, and Atlantic High School. After all of this time in education, she has decided this will be her last year.

Ms. Eblen will be retiring after the 2012 students graduate. Eblen explained her reasons for retiring: “I want to devote my energy to finishing my dissertation for my Ph.D.” She plans on writing her dissertation, traveling, and riding her horse White Paws after her retirement.

Junior Cammi Nelson expressed her feelings about Eblen’s retirement. “It makes me very sad because she’s a really nice teacher, and I’m going to miss her horse stories.”

Eblen said what she will miss about AHS is her students, and getting to know her Core students. Junior J.T. Baker said he was going to miss “how understanding she is, and how well she works with students.” Junior Haley Murphy said she would miss “All of her college stories.”

Former English 2 teacher, Jennifer Hartwig, will be taking Eblen’s position for next year’s English classes.
