A day in Bair’s den

Derek Bair is a first-year teacher at Atlantic High School.

By Austen Farver

Teacher Derek Bair starts every day with PC Support 2, which usually is a lecture class. When the 2nd period bell rings, he teaches Architecture Drafting and Engineering Drafting together as a class. The students usually work independently on their projects, said Bair.

Next Bair has AHS Curriculum Learning Team (CLT), where he works on curriculum changes with other teachers.
Right after that, Bair begins prep where he usually has fun designing signs.
When prep ends, Bair begins Communication Tech where they have been working on posters and making different computer imaging drawings.
Bair’s next class is Electronics, where students study electronic devices. For the last period of the day, he teaches Mechanical Drafting where students work on mechanical parts on the AutoCad software.
When asked about the balsa wood houses students used to make in Communications Tech, Bair said, “I did not do them this year because of the amount of students that end up at the nurse’s office due to hot glue burns.”
Derek Bair talks with Mike Watts and Alan Kleppinger during Electronics class. Bair graduated from William Penn College last May.
