For someone who doesn’t particularly have happy thoughts towards the town of Atlantic, I was excited about service learning day. And yet, in spite of waking up to find a beautiful day outside, we all end up stuck in this building all day long. Why? Honestly, I am baffled by the postponement of service learning day. The weather is predicted to be partly sunny until 1 p.m., at which point we would be done doing work outside.
Did the administration not look up the weather? Did they just assume that with the rain during the night that we couldn’t stand to get a little muddy today? I don’t know about the rest of the students, but I wouldn’t mind getting a little dirty for a day outside of this school building.
I’m not the only student who is upset about the postponement, and people are showing their annoyance on Twitter. Collin Baker, freshman, posted after hearing the news. “No reason not to go outside” with a picture of his iPod’s screen showing the weather for the day- sunny and in the 60’s. Kody Hansen, freshman, also had something to say about the day, “it makes perfect sense..it’s a lil damp outside so we should cancel it..but if there is a blizzard with ten feet of snow we go to school.” If anyone recalls, in previous years we continued service learning day in rainy, colder weather.
As I sit in class staring out the window at blue skies, I ask, “Are blue skies not good enough?!”

Yeah I totally agree, I was sitting in my first period class “researching information online” watching Twitter go nuts about the postponement of Service Learning Day.

I’m with you Zoey, it was a beautiful day outside and so what if the grounds a little wet? Kody’s statement made me laugh, mainly because it’s insanely true.
