Online college courses are being offered to high school students. These courses will give dual credit and are taken in the guidance office.
“Juniors and seniors are encouraged to take online college courses for Independent Study purposes” according to the Online Options for Students sheet, available in the guidance office. Most classes cost $250.
When students enroll in online classes, the class may be counted as their sixth class and will be calculated into their GPA. The IWCC-Cass Campus offers the same options, though classes are taken in person.
Since some colleges “do not have an agreement under the Post-secondary Enrollment Option” (PSEO) they do not provide their courses for $250. Students may check with their guidance counselor to know which courses are offered for $250 per course and which are offered for $450 per course.
Students may take a college course that does not have a PSEO agreement and will have to pay with their personal money but will still get dual credit.
Sophmore Monica Witzman said, “I didn’t even know we had them.”
Sophmore Sierra Smith said she may take an online class her junior or senior year but “it depends on what is offered and how much it costs.”
