Student stable after car accident

By Blake Meneely

A Walnut (Atlantic) student was injured in a car accident while driving between Atlantic and Walnut last night (Jan. 19).  Sophomore Josie Anzalone rolled her van after hitting a deer.  According to AHS secretary Cathy Knuth, the Walnut schools administration spoke with  Principal McKay and relayed the following information.

Anzalone was ejected from the vehicle and was not found for about two hours.  She has a fractured skull and femur, a broken jaw and gashes.  Anzalone is at Creighton Medical Center in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. She is stable and doing okay. Everything is “moving in a positive direction,” according to information released at this time.

AHSneedle will provide updates on Anzalone’s condition as information becomes available.

Walnut athletic director Jeff Koenck, speaking for the Walnut schools, had no information to share at this time.
