New schedule starts next week

By Blake Stender

Atlantic High School will be having seminar two times a week instead of four, starting the week of Jan. 23.

Students will still have seminar on Mondays and Fridays but not on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  This change will add four minutes to each class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which increases total class time by eight minutes per class per week.

According to principal Heather McKay, teachers at AHS were concerned that they were not getting enough time to teach because seminar makes class length shorter.

When asked if she thinks having seminar two days a week is a good idea, principal Heather McKay replied, “Yes and no. Yes it will give eight additional minutes per class per week, but no because I worry about the additional schedule messing up teachers.”

The change will mean that AHS will use one schedule for Mondays and Fridays, another schedule for Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a third schedule for Wednesdays.

McKay said that she thinks kids are flexible so they will adapt well to the change.

Teachers will post the new Tuesday and Thursday schedules in their classrooms today.
