The Trojans’ impressive offensive game turned into strong defense Friday night. Atlantic defeated the Red Oak Tigers 68-24.
The win is Atlantic’s fifth straight. They are now 10-2 on the season and are tied for first place in the Hawkeye 10 conference with a 6-1 record in conference play.
The Trojans led 15-0 before Red Oak’s Pete Walker hit the Tigers’ first field goal with 2:30 remaining in the first quarter.
Atlantic built a 23-2 lead in the second quarter, before the Tigers scored again.
The black-and-gold led by as many as 31 in the first half.
The Trojans led 36-8 at halftime.
Walker scored seven of Red Oak’s eight points in the first two quarters.
Atlantic led by 40, 50-10, before the Tigers went on an 8-0 run to cut into the Trojans’ impressive lead.
Compared to Monday’s game against Tri-Center, the Trojans’ controlled the game the entire 32 minutes on Friday.
The Trojans outscored Red Oak 32-16 in the second half.
Junior Dalton Franken led all scorers with 17 points. Senior Gunnar Blum ended the night with 16, and junior Harrison Hoegh added 12.
