Trojans stop Rams in their tracks

by Anthony Robinson

After building a 16-point lead at the break, the Trojans never let up in the second half. The Trojans led by as many as 29 on their way to a 68-47 win last Friday night.

The game never had a real flow, because 54 combined fouls were called between the two teams.

Atlantic started slow and trailed 3-0, before ending the first quarter on a 14-1 run.

“Our defense turned into our offense a lot. In the first quarter, we thrived off of our defensive energy and that turned into easy buckets,” junior Dalton Franken said, “(We had) first game jitters; wanted to get some buckets to get ahead, but we slowed down and got things under control and we played to our potential and speed, we did fine.”

The Trojans led 28-12 at halftime.

Atlantic came out strong in the second half. Junior Chad Christensen hit a three-point field goal to start an eight to nothing run to begin the third quarter.

Christensen hit a desperation three-pointer from just inside the front court at the buzzer to end the third quarter.

Franken led all scorers with 16.  Junior Sam Markham added 14 and Christensen had 12.

Junior Stuart Hoegh scored nine points off the bench in Friday’s game.

The Trojans shot a miserable 14-32 from the free-throw line.

Atlantic travels to Red Oak on Tuesday night.
