The Walnut School Board is holding a special meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, November 29, to discuss the possibility of sharing with AHST instead of Atlantic.
The current arrangement between Walnut and Atlantic has been occurring for five years. When asked what reasons they change is an option, Walnut principal Kent Klinkefus responded, “We are looking at long term planning, and with the declining enrollment, we asked, ‘How are our students going to be served best?’”
As of now, the students are let out approximately a half an hour before their next class starts in Atlantic. If the switch occurs, students will only need to be let out 10-15 minutes before their next class in Avoca.
When asked how the students feel about the possible change, Klinkefus responded by saying there were mixed emotions within the student body. He commented, “We will probably see a little fall out, as you do with any change.”
Klinkefus also commented he thought the board was leaning in the direction of the change, but it will be discussed further at the board meeting.
