Under the direction of new head coach Chris Jahnke, the Trojann volleyball team looks to repeat or improve their 20-win season from a year ago. The Trojanns ended their season early last year with a second-round regional volleyball loss to Red Oak.

“I want to bring the group of kids together, play hard, have fun, and be successful,” coach Jahnke said.

In order to repeat the success of last season, the Trojann volleyball team will need to fill the gap of eight seniors from last season. Of the six returning players with experience last season, only three played in at least 50 percent of the games last year. “Our lack of experience [is a downfall this season],” said Jahnke.

The Trojanns will be led by seven seniors: Taylor Barry, Katie Groves, Paige Kennon, Sam McConnell,  Samantha Peterson, Nora Walker, and Kaitlynn Walter .

According to Coach Jahnke, the girls on this year’s team are very athletic and have lots of speed. “We’re going to be able to move around the court and hit the ball well,” Jahnke said.

The Trojanns open up the 2011 season at Creston, Thursday, Sept. 1. The first home match is next Tuesday (Sept. 6) against Clarinda.
