AHS health and physical education teacher Casey Pelzer has made the transition from middle school to high school.
Pelzer taught middle school health classes before transferring to the high school this year to teach Health 1, Health 2, and weight training. The main difference between the two schools, Pelzer stated, is that the students are very different. There are things he enjoys about each set of students. Pelzer enjoys the energy of the middle school, but he likes the maturity of the high school students. “Even though a lot act the same,” Pelzer said.
Pelzer’s Health 1 class recently finished a unit with group work on health issues. Health 2 students also finished a unit with group work on illegal drugs. Health 2 student, junior Paige Lank, said, “I just like the class cause he (Pelzer) is laid back.”
The biggest classroom change Pelzer realized was that the teachers have to plan ahead and be very organized. At the middle school one lesson plan could last a related arts teacher six days, said Pelzer. Also the related arts teachers may see their students every three class days, but a high school teacher sees the students every day or every-other day.
