The Atlantic Trojanns traveled to Denison Wednesday, Feb. 16 to face the Monarchs in the first round of regionals. The Trojanns were unable to extend their season, falling to Denison 59-34.
Atlantic ended the season with a 6-16 record.
The Trojanns saw the Monarchs jump out on an 8-0 run to begin the first quarter and found themselves playing catch-up the remaining 30 minutes of the game. Denison led 22-5 after the first quarter.
The Monarchs led 30-14 at the half.
After 5 quick points by Denison early in the third, the Trojanns went on a 12-0 run to cut the Monarchs’ lead to 9. Atlantic outscored the Monarchs 14-8 in the third. The Trojanns trailed by 10, 38-28, heading to the fourth quarter.
The Trojann offense was never able to get anything going in the final quarter, getting outscored 21-6.
Junior point guard Paige Kennon led the Trojanns with 10 points.
The Monarchs were led by Brittnie Freml with 13 points.
