On Wednesday, May 3 the Atlantic girls golf team traveled to Whispering Creek for their second tournament of the week. The girls came out placing second with a team score of 369 falling to Waukee who shot 359.

Senior Brooke Newell shot the low score for the Trojans and winning the entire tournament with a 76. She battled with Waukee’s Brooke Boardman who competed against her at Willow Creek earlier in the season where Boardman got the best of Newell. Newell won this battle beating Boardman.

Other key trojan scores were from sophomore Alyssa Ginther who placed seventh with a 93. Senior Sarah Fixmer placed 17th with a 99 as well. Two other trojans rounded out the top 20 with scores of 101.

Coach Kathy Hobson said the greens were very large and had a lot of slope. She said another factor was the course had a lot of elevation that the girls had not played on yet. Hobson and the girls thought that this was the toughest they had seen all year.

The girls will travel to Caper Creek in Red Oak for their next tournament on Monday, May 8.
