Getting to Know the Class of 2017: Austin Mwalia

Senior spotlight featuring Austin Mwalia.

Have you ever watched shows such as America’s Got Talent, American Idol or The X Factor? Have you ever thought to yourself, “Hey, I could make it on there,”? Austin Mwalia took that thought and made it happen. Mwalia’s dream is to sing, and that could soon become reality. he is to audition on The Voice on Jan. 21, 2017. He’s very adamant, saying, “I’ll audition for The Voice again, incase I don’t make it on the first time.” The Voice is a music talent show hosted by Carson Daly and judged by superstar artists Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, with two other alternating chairs. Mwalia said it’s a very big opportunity, but he loves singing. His Facebook page is overflowing with his talent, with many celebrating his awe-inspiring pipes. Mwalia isn’t stuck on one plan after school. He said his plan is to attend Wartburg University for Music Performance and Education, once again showing his love and passion for music.

 

Mwalia participated in football (his favorite activity), wrestling and track during his time at Atlantic High School. He is also in choir, and made All-State his junior year, stating, “It’s my favorite memory.” Prior to living in Atlantic, Mwalia was born in the Federated States of Micronesia, before moving to Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended Queen Kaahumanu Elementary School before moving here. He said if he were to have a superpower it would be the, “power to absorb other powers and take them as my own. That way I can have any power I want just by being by another person with superpowers. I’ll be invincible.” Mwalia said he wants to be remembered as, “kind and respectful,” and in 10 years hopes to have a, “successful life.” With $1 million, he said, “I’d save for the future, buy all the things I never had, and maybe help the school out.”

 

Mwalia always seems to be in a great mood. He says that “all the beautiful faces of Atlantic High” make him happy. Austin’s role model is Jesus Christ, and the most influential people in his life are his family and friends. Austin is proud to be an Atlantic Trojan. Be sure to look out for Austin in January as he takes the stage for the Voice blind auditions.
