Friday night AHS will host the season opening game for the boys basketball 2016-2017 season vs. St. Albert. St. Albert is a private Catholic school located in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The Trojan boys basketball team opened their season on the road Tuesday night against Winterset defeating the Huskies 83-59. The Huskies play their first game on the road tonight in Boone.

Senior Garrett Franken lit up the scoreboard at Winterset posting 42 points and grabbing 7 rebounds while also blocking two shots. Franken entered the season having scored 949 career points. Adding the 42 points from Winterset that leaves Franken with 991 points,  just nine points from breaking 1,000 career points playing as an Atlantic Trojan.

Garrett’s older brother Dalton, a junior basketball player at Dordt College has recently broken the 1,000 point milestone while wearing a Defender uniform. Dalton Franken crossed the milestone in the second half of a game vs. Dakota Wesleyan on Nov. 16.

The game between Atlantic and St. Albert Friday night will be the Catholic school’s’ first boys basketball game for the 2016-2017 season.
