The Trojans boy’s brought home a second place finish at the Hawkeye Ten meet. Thursday, Oct. 14, the Trojan cross country team ran in Council Bluffs at their Hawkeye Ten meet, placing right behind Glenwood.

Senior Phoenix Shadden was the overall champion of the meet with a time of 16:21:31. This was Shadden’s best time of the season.

“It was pretty cool to win this meet, and was one of my goals,” said Shadden. Shadden said a key factor in his run was his first mile because he started out well running a time of 4.53.

One of Shadden’s goals for the rest of the season is to make it to state and place in the top 15.

Next Thursday at 3 p.m. the boy’s will run their state qualifying meet at Atlantic Golf and Country Club.

On the other side, the Atlantic girl’s placed fourth at the Hawkeye Ten cross country meet. Led by sophomore Ashley Wendt with a seventh place finish, the girls were able to place in the top five at the Hawkeye Ten meet. Wendt and sophomore Karsyn Rush were the only Trojan girls to place in the top ten.

Rush felt good about her run. “The course wasn’t hilly, and I like it,” she said. She also said she ran one of her best times but thought there is room for improvement especially for the team overall. Rush is very excited to run at the state qualifying meet and has high hopes going into the meet.

Along with the boys, the girls will run their state qualifying meet here in Atlantic at AGCC. They will start running at 3 p.m.
