Atlantic girls’ volleyball team fell to Clarinda on Tuesday, Sept. 13, in three sets, but they showed potential in the third set when they came close to a victory in front of a huge home crowd.

The volleyball girls lost their first set 12-25, and the second set 11-25, but then came close in the third set 21-25.  The girls were tied throughout most of the third set, but Clarinda came through and beat them.  Coach Emma Walker said that she was “very happy” with the improvement of blocking.  She also said that Cheyenne Elliott led with four solo blocks, and that Riley Seufert did a “very nice job.”

Walker said, “Clarinda is just a very athletic team, and they could dig up everything we gave them.  They have a pretty strong front row, but I would say the biggest thing we struggled with was their back row.  Their libero really moved around the court well, and didn’t let our attackers get us the momentum we needed.”

Walker said the Trojans will play some “very quality teams in the next couple of weeks,” so it is important for the team to “set goals and do our best to reach them.”

“We’re staying positive now,” said junior Paige Williams. “We’re not getting mad at each other. People aren’t tearing each other down. They’re keeping their head up so they can get the next pass.”
