Juniors vs. Freshmen

The junior class won their round of dodgeball on Tuesday, Sept. 6, against the freshmen. Over 10 freshmen signed up for the annual event, but only five came out to court. The announcer Trace Peterson made it his goal to get more girls out for the 2020 team. He eventually resulted in getting 10 players total.

During the first round, the juniors came in strong with one out of the 11 players out, while the freshmen had seven of their 10 players out. The round ended with the juniors ahead 10-1. The younger class took their revenge in the second round with a win. Audrey Cave was the last junior left on the court. The junior class was on their toes as Cave caught a ball allowing Kylie Proehl to re-enter the game. The remaining freshmen defeated the Cave-Proehl duo.

The final tie-breaking round finally came. As the players ran back to officially start the round, junior Melanie Hart lost her shoe. No penalty was called to the team as line judge Tucker Weber removed the hazard from the court. Players were informed during this round that the game would now be played inside the white lines. Freshmen got called out by the junior crowd for not following that rule.

In the final moments of the game, Peterson said, “ This is going to be a nail biter,” in reference to the remaining three on three: juniors Cave, Alexis Handel and Riley Seufert vs. freshmen Pluma Pross, Grace Bruckner and Reagan Pellett. The class of 2018 won this final round. The juniors will face off against the sophomores on Thursday.
