Last Tuesday the girls golf team competed in the annual Trojan Invitational. There were 12 teams that participated in the event, but the Trojans came out victorious once again. “We had an outstanding day,” said coach Kathy Hobson. Hobson said that it is always exciting to win a tournament, but even better when you can win your own. Five of the six Trojan golfers medaled on Tuesday which Hobson was thrilled about. A lot of our golfers struggled a bit at times, but always found away to get out of the slump said Hobson. Junior Brooke Newell was the medalist of the tournament with a score of 76. Newell said, “I struggled on the front nine, but got my confidence back when I made the turn to the back.” One thing Newell did struggle with throughout her round was her chipping. Newell was happy with the way she played, but knows she can still shave a few strokes off. Senior Erin Olsen was runner up in Tuesday’s event with a score of 80. Olsen thought the team did really well and was very happy with the win. A rough front nine and a few bad iron shots was the only downfall to Olsen’s game. Other than that Olsen said she got off the tee well and her putting was great. Both Olsen and Newell think that last Tuesday’s win is a huge confidence booster going into next week’s conference tournament. The girls next tournament will be Monday the 9th in Council Bluffs.
