Coach Ed Den Beste said the boys’ Harvester golf tournament was a “great day to play golf. The weather was a little cool but there was no wind.”  The Trojan boys took third place in the six-team tournament held April 19 at the Harvester Golf Course in Rhodes, Iowa.

Junior Jake Olsen placed seventh and medaled, and senior Kyle Nelson placed eighth and also medaled. “Olsen had a good start but struggled to finish the front 9 and shot a 43.  On the back he played very well with one over and finished at 79,” said Den Beste.  Den Beste also said that Nelson played well and had five birdies today with just a few struggling holes. Other players such as Zac Stork, Ben Renaud and Colton Mudd all played varsity, and Den Beste thought they played very well on a not-so-easy course.

Nelson said he felt good about this 18-hole tournament but he is still ready to expand his game.  Nelson said he stroked the putter well and hit the iron very crisp, but could work on eliminating penalty strokes.  Overall, Nelson thought he had a decent score with five birdies, and tripled on hole 12.  The team played last year’s State champions and they had tough competition, so Nelson feels that eight-place was a decent placement.
