Did someone say diner? I know a lot of people were looking forward to having a Jimmy John’s. Sophomore Morgan Guyer said he was “pretty disappointed because Jimmy John’s is better than Subway.”  What’s better than a Jimmy John’s? A Farmer’s Walnut Street Diner is what’s better!

As teenagers, we all want good food. At the Farmer’s Diner you can get just that. Everything is homemade in the morning before they open. They cut and tenderize their tenderloins. They also have pies that they make from scratch every morning. The pies on the menu are never the same.

Eat up – a double chocolate pie and a chocolate shake.

On March 17, on the corner of 5th and Walnut a diner opened. The owners of the diner are husband and wife Jerry and Vicki Eshelman. They are originally from Greenfield where they owned a diner for 19 years. They bought the Atlantic building in 2013 and have been fixing it up ever since. It needed new flooring, walls, and the entire kitchen needed an update. Eshelman said they opened another diner because they just “aren’t ready to retire.”

So far, the Farmer’s Diner has 10 workers and is open Monday through Wednesday 6-4 p.m. and Thursday thru Sunday 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. They serve home-style food and breakfast all day.

The theme of the building is Coke because Vicki has been collecting Coke items since 1989 and she thought it would be perfect since Atlantic is the Coke capital.

Eshelman said that everything was going really well and they were having a great first day. Since they didn’t announce their grand opening, a lot of people didn’t know that they would finally be opening their doors but they still had a good turnout.

Vicki would like everyone to just come try them out and tell them what you think. She said they are always open for suggestions and feedback. The Farmer’s Diner also has a conference room for any type of party or meeting you would like to have. They are always willing to let you have them there.

Junior Kerra Christensen said that the service was very friendly. “They got me my food fairly fast and the milkshake was amazing.”

I got the opportunity to try their double chocolate pie and the second I bit into that pie I felt like I was in heaven. It was the best pie I have ever had! Like Kerra said, the service was friendly and got us our food fast.

Menu items range in price from the $3.59 hamburger ($3.99 with fries) to $10.99 for the Farmer’s Breakfast.
