Get ready to sharpen up your soccer skills because AHS’s girls’ soccer starts March 21, the first day of Spring Break. So far, 21 girls from Atlantic and three from CAM have signed up. Last year, 25 signed up but the season ended with only 19 players. Assistant coach Daniel Vargason said, “ I think that the ones that are signed up this year are more dedicated players than those that signed up last year (and didn’t end up going out).”

As of right now, preseason practice and conditioning is led by the three seniors on the signup sheet. Last season, the number of seniors was over double the amount that are going out this  year. Starting March 7th, the team will start conditioning and weightlifting at 6am. Sunday and Thursday open gyms will still continue. If any high school girl is interested, come join the open gyms on Sundays at 7pm in the high school gym or after school Thursdays at Washington Elementary.

Some talk about other school districts joining our soccer team has been floating around the building. CAM, like the past years, will still be joining the AHS team. The coaches, Jordan Newberg and Dan Vargason, have contacted other schools that don’t have a school soccer team and talked to them about joining, but nothing has been finalized yet. AHSneedle will keep you updated on the decisions.
