Tis the season to curl up with a good book! Students beat this winter weather by indulging themselves in mysteries, thrillers, classic novels, and so much more.

Sophomore Alexis Handel is reading Identical by Ellen Hopkins. Identical is a young-adult fiction novel switching perspectives of twins, Raeanne and Kaeleigh.  From the surface, their life seems picture perfect; they have a mother running for congress, and a district court judge father. In reality each sister have their own deep, dark, secret. Kaeleigh has been sexually abused by her father since the age of 9, while she cuts herself and binge eats, desperate to feel something normal. Raeanne uses painkillers, drugs, alcohol, sex, and purging to try to grab her father’s attention. “I give this book a 10/10 and would definitely recommend it,” said Handel.

Sophomore Zeke Whetstone is reading Valkyrie: An Insider’s Account of the Plot to Kill Hitler by Hans Bernd Gisevius. This story takes place in 1944 when a bomb placed inside Hitler’s headquarters by Colonel Count Claus von Stauffenberg and explodes without killing the Führer. The story gives you an insider’s view of the Nazi plot. “If you enjoy learning about World War 2, then this is a good book to read. I highly recommend it,” said Whetstone.
