On Saturday, October 3, Atlantic High School Student Council will be upholding a new tradition of hosting a Color-A-Thon fundraiser.

Day-of registration begins at 8:00 am in the back parking lot of Atlantic High School. Participants will run or walk the 5K course starting at 9:00 am. Spread out along the course, there will be five spots where the powder paint is thrown on you by student council members and volunteers. Once you cross the finish line, there will be fruit and water waiting for you thanks to Hy-Vee and Anytime Fitness. In the very end there will be a Color Blast After Party with music and more paint!

When speaking of his favorite part of the last run, Spanish teacher Dan Vargason said, “It was a lot of fun. Students made me a target so it was absoultely fun to get covered in all the colors.” Junior Lexi Freund was delighted with the proximity of the event and how it was put on by the student council. “It was good that we didn’t have to drive to it. You guys were all organized so it was really easy.”

Last year, the council raised $3000 with approximately 200 participants. This year, they are hoping to raise $5000 and have 300 participants. All proceeds go toward the AHS Student Council for events such as homecoming, winter formal, and the annual STUCO Conference held in Des Moines.

The cost to participate is $30 which includes a t-shirt and color dye pack for the after party. If you register as a team of two or more, the first person is $30 and each person after that is 25% off ($22.50) but you MUST ALL register together.
