The annual Solo and Ensemble Contest was held at the high school last Saturday, March 28.  The band and choir departments had 50 entries in the contest.  All the students worked their hardest to get the best rating possible.

It was a good day overall, with lots of very good ratings from both band and choir. Division I ratings include:  Mixed Instrument Choir, Percussion Duet of freshman Miranda Chipman & junior Corgan Petersen, Clarinet Trio of senior Ben Parker and juniors Emily Yager and Sidney Gifford, senior Justin Somers for his Trumpet Solo, and sophomore Nadia Somers for her French Horn Solo,

A Clarinet Quartet of Parker, Yager, Gifford, and freshman Rebekah Hallman, Chipman on her Piano Solo, Woodwind Choir, Woodwind Quintet of junior Lydia Joseph, Parker, sophomore Katie Darrow, Nadia Somers, and Yager, sophomore Anna Iekel’s Piano Solo, Yager for her Clarinet Solo, Petersen on his Mallet Solo, Darrow on her Sax Solo, Flute Trio of Joseph, freshman Charity Williams, and senior Alex Lensch, Sax Quartet of Darrow, Iekel, Parker, and sophomore Page Behrens, Parker on his Clarinet Solo, and Clarinet Duet of Parker and Yager participated in the contest.

In choir, these events received division I ratings: a Solo by junior Sarah McCance, a Solo by sophomore Max Elwood, a Solo by junior Andrew Rothfusz, Chamber Choir, a Quartet of freshmen Josh Mclean, Aaron Rothfusz, Jake Redler, and Gratt Reed, a Trio of senior Halee Glenn, Joseph, and sophomore Sarah Fixmer, a Solo by junior Will Weppler, and the Double Quartet.

However, the best score of the day from Atlantic was the duet of Parker and Yager playing “Clarinet Candy.”  They received a division I rating with a perfect score and earned the best of center award.  The two of them will take their duet to Iowa State to perform in the Best of Center Showcase.
