This years March Madness began Thursday, March 19. History was made that day as there were 5 games decided by a single point, a new record. Just as expected in the month of March, there were some upsets.

3 seed Iowa State lost to 14 seed UAB, 60-59. Then 11 seed UCLA defeated 6 seed SMU, also 60-59. The 10 seed Ohio State Buckeyes beat the 7 seed VCU, 75-72. Then, the Cinderella story began for 14 seed Georgia State as the head coach’s son hit a deep game winning three to defeat the 3 seed Baylor, 57-56. It was a good day for basketball fans everywhere (maybe not for some of our local ISU fans though).

1 seed Kentucky (36-0) still seems to be the fan favorite to win it all as they continue their quest for perfection, starting off the tournament making a statement by clobbering the 16 seed Hampton Pirates, 79-56, and then defeated 8 Cincinnati, 64-51. Kentucky will play 5 seed WVU Thursday at 9:45 p.m.

The tournament continues March 26, kicking off the Sweet 16 with 3 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish against the 7 seed Wichita State Shockers at 7:15 pm. Then at 7:47, 1 seed Wisconsin takes on 4 seed UNC. Later, 6 seed Xavier will play 2 seed Arizona at 10:17 pm. Then to start off your weekend, Friday at 7:15 pm, the 11 seed UCLA Bruins will face 2 seed Gonzaga. Later, 8 seed NC State takes on 4 seed Louisville at approximately 7:37 pm. Later that night, 1 seed the Duke Blue Devils will try an end 5 seed Utah’s tourney run at 9:45 pm. Finally, the last game of the night, 3 seed Oklahoma takes on 7 seed Michigan State at around 10:07 pm.
